CIPHERLAB RS38: Customizable Rugged Data Terminal

The perfect equipment for mobile workflows: Whether in retail, in the warehouse or in the field, a compact portable computer is extremely useful for smooth processes. The RS38 from CipherLab provides a large 6-inch display with a brightness of up to 630 nits. The screen is easy to read even in bright sunlight. The scratch and break-proof touchscreen can be operated with a stylus, a finger, a gloved hand and even when the surface is wet. The RS38 mobile computer is available as Wi-Fi-only version with Wi-Fi 6E, which enables particularly fast data communication. The version with additional 5G and GPS is perfect for field work.

Barcode and RFID capture: Choose between three scanner options for capturing all common barcodes and matrix codes (1D/2D). The SE4100 scan engine is designed for close range data capture up to a distance of around 50 cm, while the SE4770 is suitable for distances up to approx. 1 m. For many areas, for example in retail or field service, these standard range scanner options are usually sufficient. The SE5500 scan module enables a significantly greater range of over 12 m. It offers an excellent solution for large storage areas, high shelves or barcode scanning from a forklift. The scanners support optical character recognition (OCR). In many industries, RFID tagging is standard. For the RS38, an RFID handle is available as accessory. It achieves a read rate of 1,300 RFID tags per second.

Cameras: The RS38 handheld data terminal is equipped with a powerful 16-megapixel camera on the rear. PDAF technology ensures fast focusing and razor-sharp shots. On the front, the device has an 8-megapixel camera for video calls.

Processor technology and management software: The RS38 is equipped with a Qualcomm octa-core processor and provides 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage. Storage capacity can be expanded by up to 1 TB with a MicroSD card. The device runs the Android 13 operating system, which can be upgraded through version 18. CipherLab provides the management software ReMoCloud. It enables rapid deployment, remote diagnostics and troubleshooting. It can also be used to locate devices by means of geofencing (WWAN models only). In addition, the RS38 is compatible with MDM solutions from SOTI, AirWatch and Ivanti.

Robust mobile computer: The RS38 can withstand drops from a height of 1.5 m and, with a rubber boot (accessory), even from a height of 1.8 m onto concrete (MIL-STD-810H). The device is sealed against the ingress of dust and water in accordance with protection classes IP65 and IP68. It can withstand both water jets and prolonged immersion in water. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The RS38 can be operated within a temperature range between -20 °C and +50 °C.

Two battery options: The standard battery allows over 14 hours of operation. If required, a high-performance battery can be used, which lasts for over 21 hours. The battery is user-replaceable and can be changed while the device is running (hot swap).

Accessories: Charging cradle, charging and communication cradle, various charging options for batteries and devices, hand strap, rubber boot, pistol grip, UHF RFID reader, batteries, belt holster, shoulder strap, etc.
